Library & Arts

The Dobbs Ferry Library is a member of the Westchester Public Library System, making the contents and programs of 38 libraries available to Dobbs Ferry residents. In addition, nearby colleges and universities offer superb sources of reference and research materials.

Art is regularly exhibited at the Plotkin Gallery in the Dobbs Ferry Library and in Fellowship Hall of the South Presbyterian Church.

The Actors Conservatory Theatre, a local theater group, puts on several plays each year in the Masters School Theater and St. Mark's Hall in Yonkers. They also have a group called the "Merry Murders" who perform mysteries in a dinner theater setting.

The Festival Chamber Music Society, formerly the Dobbs Ferry Chamber Music Festival, performs four Sundays in June at the Masters School Theater.

The Hastings Creative Arts Council, in existence for over 30 years, presents events throughout the year to provide cultural enrichment for the communities in all the performing and graphic arts.

Surrounding Dobbs Ferry are many museums, galleries, theater, dance and music groups and historically significant properties. The Jasper F. Cropsey house in Hastings is Gothic in style and contains oil paintings and watercolors by Cropsey who was a part of the Hudson River School of painting.

Lyndhurst is a classic Gothic Revival mansion with a rose garden and greenhouses.

Almost next door to Lyndhurst is a quaint cottage, Sunnyside, that was home to Washington Irving and slightly further north is the Tarrytown Lighthouse that was built in 1882.

The Hudson River Museum in Yonkers is comprised of a wonderful Victorian mansion, the Andrus Planetarium and a modern gallery. Just slightly south of the Hudson River Museum is Philipse Manor Hall built in 1672 and considered to be the oldest building in Westchester.

To the north is the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow built in the 1600s and restored in the late 1800s; Philipsburg Manor, a Dutch colonial farm; and Van Cortlandt Manor.
