Village Government

Legislative and policy-making powers are vested in the Mayor and a Village Board consisting of five Trustees. The Mayor is the official head of the village and presides at meetings of the Trustees. The Mayor may vote on any matter before the Board and is obliged to cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie. Elections for the offices of Mayor and Trustee are held on the third Tuesday in March.

The Board of Trustees meets on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month at the Municipal Building. All meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Many residents volunteer their services for the numerous boards and commissions appointed by the Village Board.

The Village Manager, appointed by the Board of Trustees, is the chief executive administrative officer of the Village. The Manager is responsible for the faithful execution of laws of the State of New York and of the ordinances, rules, and by-laws of the Board of Trustees. The Manager recommends legislation, prepares a budget for the consideration of the Board, and reports to the Board on all affairs of the Village.

The Village participates in a vigorous recycling program.
